A flange known as a weld neck flange is created to be butt welded to a piping system. There are many requirements for this type of flange. Weld Neck Flange is more expensive due to its lengthy neck and the cost of personnel to contact it with a pipeline or fitting, but it is favored for high-stress applications. Stress is transmitted to the pipeline by the necks or hubs. The weld neck flange is significantly reinforced by the gradual change in thickness from the hub base to the wall thickness at the butt weld. Weld-Neck flanges reduce turbulence and erosion since their bores are the same as those of the pipelines they are attached to.
